2018 Members Update

Somewhere deep under the snow, our trails are enjoying their winter slumber – dreaming of hooting and hollering riders.  By now, many of you are starting to have that familiar “itch” to get out on the trails – so here are a few things to look forward to for the upcoming year:

February – Groomed Fat Bike trails!

Thanks to the generous support of the local riding community, Nipika Mountain Resort, A&W Invermere, Columbia Cycle, Elemental Cycle, and Bicycle Works – the CVCS has purchased a SnowDog groomer!  Various trails at Lake Lillian will be groomed on a regular basis for the rest of the winter season, creating a network of groomed singletrack for fat bikes!  This promises to create a riding experience unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before!

February 24 – Nipika Cross River Ripper Fat Bike Race

Fat boys rejoice! Nipika Mountain Resort and Columbia Cycle are hosting the first annual Cross River Ripper Fat Bike Race.  With 5, 10 and 20km categories, there is something for everyone!  Find out more and register here!

April (Date to be confirmed) – Give Back Sunday!

The Horsethief Pub & Eatery in Radium Hot Springs is hosting a give back Sunday, with proceeds from all sales going towards the CVCS.  We will be hosting a fun social ride in the afternoon, finishing at the pub for great food, drinks, and good times!

April 28 – CVCS Gear Swap

Dust off your old bikes and gear – it’s time to find them a new home, and support the CVCS!  The annual CVCS Gear Swap is back, and better than ever!  Hosted at the new Columbia Valley Centre, this new venue promises much more room for bikes and gear… so much more, that we’re opening up the doors to ALL summer outdoor equipment!  A percentage of all sold items go towards building and maintaining the trails you love to ride, and hosting fun community events for all!  Stay tuned for more details!

March – October – CVCS Trail Days

Trail days are back and better than ever!  Get your hands dirty, hang out with great friends, meet awesome new people, and help give back to the trails you love to ride!  Expect frequent and fun trail days throughout the riding season!

May – September – CVCS Toonie Tuesday Race Series

Always a crowd pleaser – the popular Toonie Tuesday race series will be back again this season!  Hosted by awesome local businesses, the fun race series encompasses XC, DH and Enduro categories at a number of the most popular riding areas throughout the valley!  These fun events are for members only – so make sure to get your 2018 membership today!

Other News

Some other exciting news for this year includes a major improvement project at Mount Swansea!  The CVCS has applied for grants to help put the crowning jewel on top of one of the most popular riding areas in the valley!  This major project will include a new, highlight intermediate-level flow trail from the South Summit to the 2k, improvements to the parking area, signage, and a plethora of trail improvements!

We will be focusing heavily on increasing membership this year – creating a strong voice for cycling in the valley.  Part of this is encouraging youth memberships and participation at club events, so we are reducing all barriers to entry by making youth memberships FREE for 2018! Furthermore, we are working hard on increasing member perks and giveaways, and hosting some seriously awesome events!  Remember, if you love riding in the valley, become a member today!

New for 2018 – we are introducing CVCS GEAR!  Support the trails you love, and look awesome while you’re at it!  T-Shirts are now available on the CVCS Store, with Hats and Hoodies being added soon!  All proceeds from CVCS Gear sales go towards making riding in the valley better than ever!
